We understand that it is in the client’s interest to select a coverage that will be friendly to the budget. But we must also remember that it is important to consider the amount of protection you would prefer in case of an accident.  Auto Insurance is purchased for financial coverage against bodily injuries and/or physical damages resulting from traffic collisions. It is also capable of providing coverage against damages sustained from circumstances other than traffic collisions.

While you may want to choose minimum coverage, which your state sets, it is a good idea to balance the idea of what you would want in case of an accident. Should you want a premium that is lower, you may need to be prepared to pay more out of pocket when there is an accident. In comparison, selecting a higher premium now will potentially yield to greater protection in the future. There are coverages which are mandatory by law, such as Liability Coverage, some that are highly recommended, such as Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage, and one like Comprehensive Coverage, which may be required by a third party such as an auto leasing company.

Liability Coverage, mandatory

  • Bodily Injury Liability provides coverage when others are injured by your car, and an insured driver is legally at fault. It may also provide for legal defense if claims are brought against the insured driver.
  • Property Damage Liability provides coverage when you or another insured person damages someone else’s property. May be someone else’s vehicle, building or another’s non-living object.

  1. Comprehensive Coverage

This coverage may be required by an auto leasing provider, however is not mandatory by law

This coverage helps pay for loss of or damage to your car in cases other than an accident, and requires a deductible. Upon choosing a deductible, remember that a higher deductible may lower your premium, but increase your out of pocket contribution in case of damages or loss.

Collision Coverage pays for the damages incurred to your vehicle upon collision with another non-living object or vehicle overturn. Damages resulting from:

  • Fire
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Flood
  • Vandalism
  • Theft
  • Hitting an animal

  1. Collision Coverage

This coverage may be required by an auto leasing provider, however is not mandatory by law

As the name calls it, Collision Coverage will pay for damages resulting to your vehicle caused by a collision, and requires a deductible.

Collision may be with another vehicle, an object or a vehicle rollover.

Upon choosing a deductible, remember that a higher deductible may lower your premium, but increase your out of pocket contribution in case of damages or loss.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

This coverage is not mandatory by law, but is strongly recommended.

  • Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury covers your injuries and damages upon an accident with someone who does not have insurance. This policy will cover for injuries and damages the at-fault/uninsured party is legally responsible for. Such injuries and damages may be medical treatment and lost wages. This coverage pays for up to the respective limits selected upon deciding on your policy.
  • Underinsured Motorist Coverage covers expenses you incur which are more than the at-fault/underinsured party’s Liability limits, or what their policy covers. This coverage pays for up to respective limit selected upon deciding on your policy.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage covers damages to your insured vehicle. This coverage pays for up to respective limit selected upon deciding on your policy.

Medical Payments

Medical payments cover medical bills of you and your passengers after an accident, regardless of who is at fault.

Rental Reimbursement

Should you lose your car completely, or have it being repaired after an accident, Rental Reimbursement covers the cost of obtaining a rental vehicle for the time being. Daily allowance and/or limits vary by insurance companies.

Road Side Assistance

It is safe to say, mechanical problems, dead battery and a flat tire happen to the best of us. Even the occasional silly, yet true, locking yourself out of your car, or running out of gas. Having Road Side Assistance coverage allows you to easily get yourself out of these situations, and back on the road by providing towing to a near facility, and covering a specified amount of necessary labor to able your vehicle again.
